Answers to the most common questions

01 What does 42.finance do?

We build and run the finance function of a business: from diagnostics to a data-driven management system that lets the owner control the business through numbers. Not an agency, not outsourcing, not “help with finance” — the company’s finance function, designed, built and run externally. We also build custom software — grounded in the specific company’s business processes, built strictly around them.

02 Do you build software?

Yes. When standard tools are not enough, we design and build custom solutions for a specific business: dashboards, models and calculations shaped around the decisions the owner makes most often. The system is built around the company’s processes — not the other way around. More: system.42.finance.

03 How is this different from classic consulting?

Consulting gives recommendations — we build and run the function. One partner leads the client personally, from the first call to the close of the mandate, with no rotating team of consultants and no “let me get back to the team”. If we don’t know the answer, we say so — and go get it together.

04 How does the work start?

With a conversation, not a proposal. The first meeting is 45 minutes, no fee: we leave it either with a working hypothesis or with an honest recommendation of who else to talk to. The first working step is a diagnostic of the company’s finances: not a certified audit, but an honest look at where the company is now and what relies on manual accounting. Next steps and timelines depend on what the diagnostic shows — every system is built individually.

05 Who is this for?

We’ll understand the size and specifics of your business at the first meeting — the key requirement is an accounting team on the client’s side: the system runs on data, and someone has to maintain it. We work with companies worldwide — remotely, so geography is not a constraint.

06 Do you do bookkeeping and taxes?

Our focus is management accounting and building the company’s financial system: what gives the owner the picture for decisions. Adjacent requests are discussed individually at the first meeting.

07 What is inside the management accounting system?

The core of the whole financial system: one interface where the owner sees within ten minutes how much each line of business really earns and where money leaks. It includes unit economics — contribution margin by SKU, margin by segment — built on accounting data, with no separate Excel files.

08 We are a group of companies. Do you work with that?

Yes, it is a dedicated practice area: consolidated P&L, balance sheet and cash flow across all group companies with intercompany eliminations. The owner sees the group as one business — and every legal entity separately, in one interface.

09 What is the 13-week cash flow and why does it matter?

Turbulence is not a slow deterioration of the P&L — it is a sudden gap in the cash flow. The 13-week cash flow shows that gap weeks before it becomes a fact: the owner sees the account balance one, two, three months ahead, and decisions about large expenses, dividends and investments are made on a model, not after the fact.

10 What does T+5 mean?

Closing the month on the fifth business day. If in May the owner makes decisions on April’s data, he is not making decisions — he is reacting to the past. T+5 is not speed for its own sake; it returns the month to the owner.

11 What happens after implementation?

Ongoing support is available for every system. If we build custom software for you, support is mandatory: the system is heavily automated, so support means technical maintenance and strategic insights, not manual work.

12 What tools do you work with?

All of them: we are not tied to a specific stack — the system is built around your business processes, not around a particular application.

13 How safe is it to give you access to financial data?

NDA before the first meeting if needed. Data is confidential and never shared with third parties. We treat the owner’s access as trust to be earned — not as a transaction under a contract.

14 What format and languages do you work in?

Meetings — Zoom or Google Meet; languages — Ukrainian and English. We reply to requests within one business day. We work remotely with clients worldwide.

15 How much does it cost?

The fee is calculated individually for every client — based on the scope of work and the specifics of the business, using a transparent and clear calculator. The first meeting is 45 minutes, with no fee.
